Life Is Beautiful
Have you ever found yourself having a really hard day? Well today was one of those days for me. Normally I would complain about my day to anyone who would listen but since I read the book A Complaint Free World by Will Bowen, I try not to complain any more. Instead, I change directions or switch gears if you will to connect with something more positive. What happens next always amazes me. I usually find something that the universe saw fit to put in front of me. I’m even more amazed or proud really that I always pick up on the sign. I just know that it comes at a perfect time and it always makes me smile. What are some of those signs? Sometimes it’s an unexpected phone call from a friend I haven’t heard from in a while. Sometimes it’s an article in a magazine that seems as if it were written just for me. Other times it’s hearing about some unfortunate event happening somewhere in the world that just makes me grateful for what I have. Today’s sign was a poem I found while looking for a WordPress theme for a project I’m working on. The words of the poem spoke to me and the best part is that I heard the message loud and clear. So I thought I would share it with you.
Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.
Life is beauty, admire it.
Life is bliss, taste it.
Life is a dream, realize it.
Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.
Life is a promise, fulfill it.
Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life is a tragedy, confront it.
Life is an adventure, dare it.
Life is luck, make it.
Life is too precious, do not destroy it.
Life is life, fight for it.
– Mother Teresa
Work At Home and Life Balance
Ask any mom and she’ll tell you it takes a lot of hard work and love to run a household. Surprisingly enough, it’s takes those same ingredients to run a successful small business. Maybe that’s why we’ve seen an increase in the number of moms venturing into the world of entrepreneurship. Hard work and love are no stranger to any mom who’s running a household or a business. Where things tend to get a little sticky is when we try to both.
Work life balance isn’t just some trendy catch phrase. It’s actually a healthy way of life for the busy mompreneur. When you work from home it’s very easy to get sucked into all the housework that needs to be done. I have a toddler and he is none stop action from the time he gets up until it’s time to go to bed. I spend most of my day running after, playing with and teaching him new things. I also own my own business and have to make time to get business things done during the day as well. Of course I also have the normal household chores to do like cleaning, laundry, making dinner and grocery shopping.
Having a set schedule is advantageous to making business and home life gel together. I have a schedule for the week that I prepare on Sunday nights and I prepare a to do list each morning. I have set times to check my email. I make all my business related calls during his 2 hour midday nap. I do some of my client work in the late afternoon. After I’ve had dinner with my family, put my son to bed for the evening and spend some quality time with my husband, I work well into the late evening and early morning. That is why having a schedule is so important. I don’t feel stressed or overworked. That’s not to say I’m not busy, but having a set schedule allows me to manage my workload in a manner that doesn’t make my life crazy. It is also necessary to note that “set schedule” doesn’t mean written in stone. Flexibility is an important aspect to life in general not just home life and business. So don’t be a tied to your schedule. Use it as a guide because you may need to juggle some things around from time to time. Remember why you went into business. I suspect it was for the same reason I did. You want to be your own boss and you want to spend more time with your family. Practicing work life balance will ensure you do just that…live a life of balance in your home, your family and your business.
Yes.We.Can - A Powerful Message…Simply Moved…I Have HOPE!
I don’t really enjoy politics. I always feel like the candidates really have their own interests at heart not mine. It just seems that lately, America is on this downward spiral much like that of a pilot desperately trying to pull up from a nose dive. Sounds hopeless I know. I have not really decided who will get my all important vote. To tell you the truth, I’ve been on the fence between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. I do know as I watched this video…something changed for me. I truly felt like I was watching history in the making. Like this must be how people felt when they heard Martin Luther King Junior’s speech. I’ve watched the video more than once and I’ve even passed it on to a few friends and colleagues. Suddenly, it didn’t feel like politics anymore. Suddenly, I’m not on the fence. This was a message and a powerful one. I was inspired. I was simply moved. Maybe America can be pulled out of this nose dive if we had the right pilot flying the plane. I have HOPE! We can do this America …YES.WE.CAN!!!!!!!
