AT&T gets and F Rating From Me

My family and I traveled this weekend to spend some quality time with family. Being a virtual assistant allows me to conduct my business from well…virtually anywhere provided they have wireless internet of course. The family we are visiting specifically had high speed internet installed for our visit. AT&T DSL Service arrived the same day we did and my husband (who is an IT person by trade) began to install it. Something that should have taken 5-10 minutes to set up at most. The set up wasn’t the issue…getting the DSL service to work was. After an hour on the phone with AT&T customer support (who were of absolutely no help) the device still did not work. The Customer service rep told my husband that there we experiencing slow speeds at the moment and that could have something to do with the problem we were having. Or we could have bad phones lines (the phones are also through AT&T and work just fine) and they would be more than happy to send a technician out for $199. Are you kidding me? You want to charge me to come fix a device that should have arrived in perfectly good working order? I told my husband to tell them we would have our family members call to cancel the service and return their defective equipment. The customer service rep then stated there were other tests he could run to see why it was not working. No Thanks! I don’t have another how to give away that I’ll never get back. So off to the Verizon Wireless store we went with my laptop in tow to sign up for their broadband access service. We had no problems what so ever and the sales guy set it up on my laptop and checked to make sure it was working before we left the store.

I think what these big business conglomerates need to realize is that the people you hire to work for you especially in customer service have to be stellar. The competition is too stiff for them not to be. With all the competition out there for internet services these days, AT&T should step up their game if they want to keep a customer. If they don’t believe me…I can give them the name of the Verizon sales guy who can tell them all about it.

Wow, I’m sorry. I feel your pain. I just recently switched from AT&T DSL to Comcast Cable. I’ve had Cable for about 10 days now… and my internet has gone down at least once a day for the past 10 days. Not fun. Maybe I should pay a visit to the Verizon people.
