Skype Software Grounded

Technology is great…when it works. I seriously thought something was wrong with me or my computer this morning when I went to log in to my Skype account. For some reason I could not log in. I tried rebooting my computer, unplugging my internet connection and then plugging it back in all with no success. I even tried two other laptops and Mac G4 before I decided to log on to the Skype web site. What did I find? A message to Skype users that reads: “Some of you may be having problems logging into Skype. Our engineering team has determined that it’s a software issue. We expect this to be resolved within 12 to 24 hours. Meanwhile, you can simply leave your Skype client running and as soon as the issue is resolved, you will be logged in. We apologize for the inconvenience. Additionally, downloads of Skype have been temporarily disabled. We will make downloads available again as quickly as possible.”

Well the only relief that little message gave me was that I wasn’t crazy and there was nothing wrong with any of my computers. It is a little unsettling how attached we get to some things. I think I spent 15 minutes trying to find out what the problem was and wasting that time on troubleshooting Skype seems silly now. But hey, I like my technology and I love it when it works. So all Skype members are grounded possibly for 12-24 hours. I don’t think anyone will hold it against them, but it sure will be nice to “take a deep breath” again!

Seems a little timely that Skype goes down just a few days after the US Congress OK’s the Executive Branch WIRETAPPING. Does this mean that Skype is having all traffic tapped now???
